This week's WW was pretty awesome, except for Cricket didn't play on his last day. Attendees included Dave, John Monkey 2, Mikey, Spoons, Big Shot, Scotty, Jess, Ford, T2, Pat, Beth, and yours truly.
Player of the day goes to Pat Pants. He was a serious force at the net and his serving showed why he was an MVP of old. He and Big Shot on the front line kept what should've been a superior team (other members = me and Mikey) in a battle vs a younger shorter squad. I think we finally won 17-15
Honorable mention to Scotty, who is a one man band and difficult for anyone to stop. Remember: his special super power is unexpected 2 hand placement shots from the back row.
Note to self: don't let dinks just fall--try to tip them or otherwise keep them up in the air.
There were many good games. I've played so many at this stage I can never remember the players and the best plays--I'm going to have to start brining a notepad! Feel free to chime in with the details for those who wish to add something.
The real battle royale began as darkness fell. Mikey was demanding more ball. Why was he able to stay so long? "Don't ask questions!" Abandoning the expected 2s matchup of Jesus & Mr. Tasty vs David & Goliath, I decided to team up with Jess. Kind of a rarity, so anything could happen. We started out down 11-3 in the first game, then came back to win. It was close, so it forced another match (to those who agree to play "one more game," this is a familiar pattern). Jess Chief got blown out, I think 15-1. Not going to take that lying down. So we switch sides for the rubber match, with our opponents feeling pretty confident. Again we were struggling, both to see and with fatigue. Until Jess started dropping back row bombs on Mikey for like 12 sideouts/points--even when he was standing right in the spot! The Unlikely Duo eventually prevailed in a battle of attrition and vision, I think 15-13.
This is for you new people: everyone fights, no one quits. The game ain't over til it's over, so stick with it and don't get discouraged. Also, "the good side" ain't always good, especially at night.
The Robe and other accouterments of power have been transferred, although I am unsure as to the location of the Net of Steel. All hail Dave, Third Chief of Argosy!!!
