Pandas,

The weather is cold. Which means the time for reflection on the season is upon us.

All and all, I'd say it was a pretty good year. Why not celebrate it with a gathering off the court? As we have for all but 2 years since the mid Oughts...

I say the same thing every year, but I for one find it important to remember why it is we do what we do, talk about watervolleyball and the league past, present, and future, and most importantly, recognize what we have achieved, both as individuals and as a group.

There are some folks we should honor for saving ball at Riata, for one--3 way tie for Panda of the Year to Tbone, Misty, and Joe say I. Also some most improved awards to hand out, etc...

Our turnout last year was piss poor. I think we can do better, provided anyone is willing to follow where I'm trying to lead with this suggestion.

Pandas like to party. This is a chance to party, and maybe receive a tin can that indicates respect from your fellows. What's not to like?

Opinions? Roll call?

Last man on the website...

I don't do Cartman tea parties. I leave such things to Jim Back, Ford, and LJ.

If the AWVP refuses to party to honor itself, so be it.

Never thought I'd see the day...

So pipe up, or pipe down about any complaints next season.

I see. Interestingly enough, I voted along some of the same lines in 2013. Although the votes are secret, thought I'd let you know that.

And now, with Creepy's recommendation, completely open.

In that there are no recommendations for nominees for any category. Just a list of everyone we can remember who played, and, since no one ever listens to my explanations of awards, they just vote their conscience.

But, as someone who has never participated in an awards party (It's a party, goddammit, Pandas are supposed to like such things), I guess the particulars of our ancient tradition escape you.

And, while I have no real clue how Pandas vote, I expect it might be on trigger time, aka appearances on the court, which is a box many folks can check more than you, even in your own venue, sir.

You could've voted your conscience, LJ/LIP, year, after year. But chose not to. Even when absentee options are available... Voting retroactively is armchair lipping. Try casting your ballot, in attempt to make a difference, just like the rest of us.

Did you ever even deign to pick up your award the year you beat me for POGOTY (point guard of the year?). You somehow missed the ceremony, just like every other one...

2007 was the fall of the Vets and me personally. So not a good year IMHO. But boy was it instructive.

And now, here we are, in 2014, where the BBGs came down just like we said, and we got to face each other, point guard to point guard. Which team won?

I want to do 2 more years as a starter, which will make it an even 25. You'll make a decent replacement. But they will want you to show up for games...

Just maybe, Scottie Pippen, you'll win some awards once I get out of your way. But you will still have to win the crowd...

It was Pat's recommendation.

Since there are no nominees anymore, that pretty well takes away the justification for complaints about the system being biased.

Show up and vote Lippy!

You can even vote if you don't show up!!

What Pat recommended and Dan said is now how it is done.

Can't get any fairer than that. Can we arrange for "I voted" emoticon emails to be sent to everyone who voted?

Maybe if we offered new events at the ceremony, like a magic show, and a speech by Chaplain Chief about how free Pandas will conquer Scrubbism...

Perhaps the Lip preferred his pre-Panda job as the Emissary predicting the demise of a handful of Argosy players:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdDdHMwhU2s

It involved a lotta lipping, a nice hat, and a mustache, after all...

Virtual LJ who "won" all those awards seems a little taller than he is in real life:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NV9DSykTbo

The lipping sounds pretty familiar though. Perhaps he needs to change his avatar?

So many inaccurate statements which is not like our Chief!

I went to the Awards Ceremony at Pat's house out off of Ed Bluestein I believe in 06 or 07.

Also, the year I won I was not present, and did vote by proxy I believe 2 years.

"they just vote their conscience." Exactly, and some instances not accurately. When has Jethro ever passed enough to qualify for PG category?!?Good pt...Yes, I agree...

It's all good...The list of award travesties is long...Marshall Faulk, Peyton Manning, and VY do not have a Heisman...Nash won b2b MVPs, and Shaq def deserved it one year...And is their any arguement MJ should have won MVP at least every title year, and a few more...

I blame Chiefheimers disease. So many seasons. If you were there for the Pat Pants awards ceremony, that was particularly crazy. I won way more than my share, Scott and Serena wrestled, Bunny vomited, and Pat shut us down around 8am.

I also blame bad information. While how someone voted is secret and sacred unless they choose to say so, letting people know who voted (and who didn't) would be less so.

My impression was the Lip had never voted for anything. An impression backed up by the general attitude of those who received and counted the votes (not me). My apologies. I stand corrected.

However, in the field of point guard awards, I will point out that your unbiased version of events is at variance with what happened.

On that note, I offer this, to all prospective candidates for any award, which, under the new rules, is everyone:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFnMeKZnhdg

We can keep bandying wits about who is the best point guard long into our retirement, Lippy. Hard for the jury to make that decision when you are not in attendance for prospective show downs. Or ceremonies--you see, showing up is half the battle.

I might also add that we are in agreement. Chief vs. LJ doesn't sell tickets. Mikey vs Dub does. And we both know that.

But, if you truly want to pimp up the point guard position, get out on the court and represent, be willing to train some new ones, and thereby win the crowd. We can worry about honoring ourselves later, in the AARs, and in Ballhalla.

We can also have the debate at the next Awards Ceremony, which is all about lipping! Lobbying within 100ft of the polling place is not only allowed, but encouraged. Free speech!

Anyone been down 1-14 and come back to win?

Takes dedication, don't it? Tell your stories about such games.

Playing this game takes dedication:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fN8489rtvFw

Used the vid before. My thought is that if Ward kept going to the body, Gatti was toast.

Sounds like a T-shirt waiting to happen--rip off Rolling Stones or Rocky Horror:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5MHNvOVl8Y

Retort would be a shirt with a lip with a zipper.

For ancient analogies not available currently for linkage, see Brian Bosworth, Stone Cold--the Whip is cracked scene...

The Lip is zipped!

Enough of past history and second tier rivalries that barely draw any attention within our insular group.

Let's talk about the future!

Last I checked, all of you more or less survived the 2014 season. How many of you are coming back for 2015??

At our advanced age (!), I have to ask. It's been awfully quiet out there in the off season. Does anyone wish to announce their retirement, so that recruitment of your replacements can begin for next season? History abhors a vacuum...

Adjust, and a question that may be relevant to voting. Can retired people vote? Under what conditions?

Once a Panda, always a Panda, say I. With a couple minimal requests: attend some games, attend the award ceremony, watch the game film before making your decisions.

Creeps? Pants? You have been wise in the ways of voting. Are there any restrictions against retirees and "plus one" guests casting a vote? I can't think of a reason why, but I defer to the political action committee on this one.

I digress. 2015 is coming fast. Roll call, for a ceremony, and for the season.

February is a good time for the awards ceremony.

We can have a council meeting beforehand to discuss things as usual.

So far I've finished 3 new videos. More to come. All the new videos will premiere at the awards ceremony and then will be posted online afterwards.

Say when.

Council meeting early in the new year, with awards to follow quickly thereafter?

So much for my stories about how I came to wield supreme executive power.

Next in history came awards ceremonies reflecting Burning Man type influences:

You can tell it's an older video, because I had long hair(!)
