You can rule out the Preserve as a venue for a while--some infidel defiler put a heavy two handed jungle smack on their net, which snapped the flimsy metal pole in two.
That venue is a lot smaller than I remember it being. Fine for 4s-5s, but I can't believe they used to play 6s there!
So, braving the rain, we headed to Mirage. Our crew included the Wild Boys, Wescott, Ford, Will, Ronin Steve, Crawfish, & TJ. Did I leave anyone out? If so, it's probably a result of memory loss due to the spike I took in the face at Preserve. BTW, I hear there was no LJ all weekend--this is his Obstacle--whaddup?
I'm finally learning how to play front at this venue. Serving has never been a problem, and I had some wicked ones on the day. However, I also ended up as the "curse of the 5th man" and had to spend 3 games on the bad side (the one with the slippery tiles) in 5 on 4 matchups where the 4 team kept winning, before I redeemed myself.
Ford and Will were strong at the net, and TJ still hits hard for an elder statesman. Ronin Steve was a particularly destructive blocker(!) at both venues.
Deto was very excited because a couple of 50 something resident biddies were trying to get him to go home with them. Take one for the team, buddy!
Quick note--this weather is really pissing me off. It got downright cold as the sun went down on Saturday, and all this rain is going to scare off the worker bees at the Obstacle.
Shamefully, I did not play on Sunday. Woulda coulda shoulda, but didn't. I was tired from being up late, then became unsafe. I did make a round of calls to get players for the Ronins, however, so I wasn't entirely usesless.
Point being, someone else will have to write Sunday's AAR I look forward to reading it.
