Sunday funday AAR. Wow. You lackadaisical pandas sure like to wait until the day gets late and the water gets colder to start playing. With lots of social hour before and during games. Anders gave up and left before we got started.

I get it, cold makes cowards of us all. My secret weapon on that front makes a world of difference.

But still got to 3s and 4s on the short court.

World class athlete Laura joined in. She got all her serves over in practice, and most of them in the game.

Erin wanted to make sure I mentioned she beat Dan on the net.

Our players today were Kenny Kyle me Dan Erin Laura Jorge Breylin, Angel.

Lost Kenny and Laura after the game we won (after being up 10-1 we went down and only won like 15-12)

Picked up Angel so 3 on 4. 3 team pulled that off, barely, 16-14.

Lost Erin, so now it’s me Dan Angel v Breylin Kyle Jorge. For the dynasty.

That one didn’t go so well for our opponents. Like 15-8, and they started out down.

Let me tell you why. There is one basic formation in 3s—2 on servers side, one player on “the island” mid short court. You can shift and shade a little, but that’s the formation.

How do I know that? I did it for years many years ago. If you do something other than that, you’re probably gonna pay.

Our opponents in game 3 eschewed the “classic” 3s formation, playing Brey about a foot off the net with no one behind him. He showed some amazing vertical and stuck a couple of my serves on one and over plays. No problem. I can adjust put it higher and deeper, which I did. Wouldn’t be able to to that if there was someone behind him.

Another day, another dynasty. Having experience helps.

I appreciate everyone trying new things with the short court and fewer players. Because history shows we’re a very conservative league on new stuff.

It’s a different game. More emphasis on placement and movement, although today’s bigs all handed out tickets to pound town on various occasions.

But I dare say fun was had. There were rallies and runs. But with the water being cold gettin colder let’s keep last games to 15 rather than 21.

Thank you persistent pandas for your patience and participation in the revival of the short court small # of players Arogsy system.

I think we’re getting some proof of concept. You know what it’s better than? Waiting around for 6s that doesn’t happen so everyone just goes home without playing. That’s happened before and it makes me sad : (

As you can tell, I’m a fan. Rather than standing in position often amongst the tall trees, watervolleyball can be a game of movement. Which is good. I like to think I’m better when I get to move. And if I can get there at my advanced age, you can get there too.
