Historic AAR! For those who missed the flurry of posts last night (some of them fairly late, which is my TM), the thing that was gonna happen happened. And so much more. Dallas came to Austin. 5 squad and one loaner. I haven’t seen Bobby and Pep(aka Juggernaut) in many years. I didn’t even get ripped in half this time! https://youtu.be/9VFeevSHAG0?si=j-5EUsDKOCI906i4 From what I saw and participated in, visiting team didn’t fare particularly well in terms of W-L. That is to be expected. What was a little unexpected was how seamlessly things came together today. We had great attendance for this auspicious day. Dallas players played with Austin players. We had mixed skill games. Everyone got a chance to play. Dynasties were denied and dynasties were achieved (hint, now is the time where the photos get posted) But along with the good games, what was really important was that Tbones rule #1, have fun, was in full effect. It really takes everyone to make that happen. Those who were not there really missed out on a special event. Notable quotable from resident Reno: when Ram is playing, no one eats. It’s Ramadan! |

So much to talk about. We had representatives from 2 cities and 3 pools today. New Dan is a skyline/Skyridge guy, as is Anders. And after how well things went today, I’m thinking, what was the big deal that prevented Dallas coming to Austin? All the excuses were swept away by a tidal wave of fun today. Look at what happens when competition and cameraderie come together amongst people who have a common interest. This is the one league concept. We are stronger together. Because as the old saying goes, watervolleyball is the most fun you can have with your short pants on. The AWVP started in a tiny dirty gym with players new to volleyball of any kind. https://youtu.be/4nTl4Rmf6AI?si=DrVNLEPnghfhTA-8 But ye olde players such as Navy and yours truly had big dreams. Watervolleyball is super fun. It can be a sport. We should seek out other intelligent aquatic life in the universe, and unapologetically share the gospel of watervolleyball with anyone who will listen. If you build it, they will come. And boy has that worked out. I am a very happy Chief today. And that’s because of all of you and your participation and dedication to this little game. We’re doing great things that I’m glad I’m still around to see: https://youtu.be/Oa6OoTVXG6E?feature=shared |
