So Kenny gets 3 mentions in todays post tournament AAR. First is from the game the snippet creepy posted came from.

I believe that was against the super team (boo) that formed so LJ could get a birthday dynasty. What I usually get on my birthday is “I’d really like to spike on chiefs head.” So traditions vary. But I digress.

So Kenny comes into the game going omg we have no chance of winning and this is the worst team ever (no, Kenny, I’ve played on far worse).

How does this work/should this work from the perspective of a super team? You can go hard at the experienced players on the mixed team. Because there’s an expectation they will be able to do something. And Kenny was probably the best player we had. Instead, Kenny did this:

I saw what happened to the team that came in before us. Blanked if memory serves.

That set the bar pretty low. Let’s at least get to 1. We did that.

Because there’s something I’ve tried to learn from the gambler. Maybe you’re not gonna win. But maybe you can beat the spread. I’ve always considered that a worthy goal.

Kenny did redeem himself, with a first ever—serve off the pole and in. There is some debate on this—pole is always in vs except on serve. Since it’s never happened, I’m going with #1 definition. Until it gets abused. Serving at the pole is a low % shot. So until it gets abused, why not?

“That’s not how it works on real volleyball” is a reasonable retort. But look at your feet. Are they on sand or hardwood? You’re on the watervolleyball matrix. Some rules can be bent, others can be broken…

As the day wound down (early these days. We getting old)

We were chasing a photo for Mikey, which would be a nice reward to traveling all the way from Australia.

Navy decided to switch sides in dynasty game to fair it up. Replaced by Omar. After we went down like 7-0 I asked Omar how much the other team was paying him to deny our photo. He replied “not enough”. So when we rallied, I figured out that Omar took their $, and then bet it on a close game his team would still win and then he’d get more $ and get to be in the photo too. Now that’s some smart gamblin.

We had another watcher today, in almost exactly the same place Marcelo was scooting up to the court when we first invited him in. It’s a hint that they want to play.

Angel had some good play at the net today.

Tendency I’m going to have to point out with Bralin. If he’s beat deep in the middle he decides to scoot up. Don’t want anymore of that. Thanks buddy. You’re taller than me. I appreciate you giving me more ground to cover.

Personally, and this probably goes for some to the new players too, I don’t mind being the beneficiary or low expectations.

Almost as rare as Kenny’s pole serve, I got a couple of “blocks”today and one push shot into Henry’s grill. He didn’t like that and said he was gonna hurt someone’s feelings. He then missed the next spike. So be precise, lest the feelings you hurt are your own.

Oops. I wasn’t going to name names. Just made myself a target.

So be it. The only way to survive in the new modern game is to face it.
