Cold front is a comin, so today was probably the last day of 2018:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqZY8P42pLoWould we even have enough to play? Me and Jesus were the first to arrive. One obstacle, no waiting. Was it cold? Yeah, a little, but playable. But would we have enough?
On that... We've done this for years. Just show up. The worst that happens is you get to drink some beers, play a little 2-2, and go home. But people always trickle in.
So pretty soon we had 3-3. I started with Walrus and Orange man Orangutan Dan (played with them all day) vs. Mikey Jess Woodcock. Remember your Argosy training--3s require movement. That didn't go so well.
As the pandas staggered in, added Dub, added Navy, Kent, Tbone, and Joe.
With Scully absent, Taz added the funny--my team consisting of a Walrus, an Orangutan, and a Grape Ape was Mr. Burns and his exotic animals. Followed by: "the animal exhibits are closed." Until they weren't, and small ball team had their dynasty attempt shut down hard--12-0 before the scored a point.
Moving forward in time past the next dynasty, which I wasn't a part of, Joe and I were captains: Joe gets Dub, Taz, Woodcock, Navy. I get Scott Dan Tbone Kent. Basically a trade of Dub for Bone from the games we just lost. Not looking good.
But then again, that's why we play the games. Here's what I think happened... The Walrus woke up--decided he liked fish, which you only get when you win. Dan, after many games of protest, decided he would play aggressively. Guess what happened? We won the last 2 games, including last to 21.
Notables today. The Sailor being as accurate as Queequeg with his serving harpoon. Nice sets, too:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNdPPEwguDQWalrus used his head on a block--it went about 15 ft in the air, I fielded it, we got that point.
Woodcock came in a little tipsy, Mikey told him "USE IT" and he did, for the middle of the day.
Kent--the rule is ONE header per day, buddy. Nice ups on the blocks--doesn't matter if they work, you were there. Some good digs, too.
Mikey and Dub do what Mikey and Dub do--dominate. Mikey had some great line shots that were unstoppable against good blocker Walrus. Dub ended up in difficult "outside in" position as the hitter, and did well.
Tbone had some excellent serves and net generalship.
Joe came out for like the first time ever in cold weather, and played well.
We had some of the best ball fetching toddlers ever.
One of the most exciting developments today was the promise of a new playlist! Although no document was signed, I'm gonna bring that one up next year...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijConRtHZOo(extra credit--any of you know what Fleet St. is??)
I have a lotta cassettes, you know...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zF4MvVgmHSINever forget Tbone's rule #1: HAVE FUN
Fun was had today. The players that are out there have fought each other countless times. Some will win, some will lose, some are born to sing the blues... damn it! Get that old soundtrack out of my head.
Mikey's new late season mantra is also worthwhile--cherish every game. This makes even more sense to me as I get older.
Trash talking is great. Winning is great, but playing, that's what you need to do to get the talk and the wins.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeVca9MwDX8As long as I can take the field, and do something to help my team, I will:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoKCwF4PqtkThe fact that we are still all in action and it's competitive is a win in and of itself:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCucXQ3IASsEvery time I play now is old school, Pandas! Still love it!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2ZzpOgknU0Hope you do too, in the next season, and the next, and the next...
