In this case, BT stands for "Big Tom" Gone from the roster on this earth, but not forgotten. He will be missed.
I'm not sure on such things, but how else can you honor a player, but to play, and dedicate a game to him? And sign a ball, to be delivered to his family? Most of us knew him as a baller, so it makes sense.
It also makes sense that today's BT was a day of joy--a rather freewheeling set of games where fun/camaraderie was mixed with a modicum of competition, and more than a dash of left handed complements and butterscotch ripple.
The left handed part makes sense given that Joey, yours truly, and Marcelo were all out there (and all on the same team at one point), and we were joined in leftiness by Dub, who has sex changed to a lefty.
Attendees: Tbone, Taz, T2, Dub, Javi, Joey, LJ, Mikey, Scully, attorneys Scott & Kent, Marcelo, and me, for my first BT since the first BT. It's been a while.
On the down side. Walrus got a tusk sideways, and had to leave the game. T2 then got high and wandered off, which is not entirely surprising. Kent and Joey were shivering--Joey was calling flex plays just so he could move around. I couldn't feel my fingers. There are ACORNS in the pool! You know what that means! Fall has come early this year.
On the up side. Amidst the fun there were good rallies and plays out there. I think Dub leads the pack today--servers and off handed hits were on. But do not forget, before there was the LJ to Dub "unstoppable play" there was Jesus & Mister Tasty, which is still a good movie. Before injury beached him, Scott the Walrus was hitting "play's over" slams. Taz had his share of hits and has resurrected the moon ball serve, both long and short. He was called on to bait Mikey, and did so, but Mikey was not baited, instead, he fished out a great back row hit. Tbone got him some, on both hits and digs. Marcello gave people the Brazilian touch with some sweet soft dinks, a lefty hit, two blocks, one good one and one off his head that was dug, all at important moments. Last, but for sure not least, Javi and Joey, the monsters of the midway, with strong front row blocking and hitting performances.
It was also amusing to put LJs claims to be a fast rangy back row player to the test. Maybe Dan can provide him with some instruction based on the Dallas video.
In a week I'll finally be playing with a full deck, age wise, if not mentally. That, the fact that I haven't been to BT BBGs in a while, and the circumstances of today's gathering have me pondering morphology, longevity, incept dates...
I'm Nexus 6:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heJBfReQF9QSo I have to wonder 26 years in if I can still hold my own and can continue to earn a place in the phalanx. Time will tell, I suppose. Ballchair willing, I still have a few decent years left.
