Let it rain. Pandas don't care. They play. Because a day without ball is like a day without ball, which is no day at all...
So we had Tbone, Mikey, Wescott, Jarrod, Navy, Marcelo, Woodcock, Dan, New York, Scully, new guys Ian and "the bodyguard" (an ironic name, since he needed one himself today).
I'm not sure whether Navy or Wescott did a better Marvin the Martian impression today.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fcaXmpZydIThe Sheriff desperately needed some wins. As Tbone says "Get you some!" And he did.
The Sailor displayed excellent seamanship, although the wins often eluded him:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJrIF7pHyO0For the new people--kind of like "Who is T2" a few weeks back, another piece of lore for you--"What is the Jesus and Mr. Tasty Show?"
That show is Mikey and me. I found some old footage in the neglected AWVP library, under AWVP classic movies:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBb9hTyLjfM&t=10sColorized, digitally remastered, with smack around surround sound added today for your pleasure. New episodes to come apparently, from a couple well heeled hoofers!
With that kind of chemistry, I can be a hitter, not a quitter, as lord of the dance Dan and a couple other blockers ascertained.
Jarrod and Scully got them some shots. When we were struggling, which was sometimes too often(!), I'd try to get the play to go their way. When it did, it usually worked.
Player of the day, with little surprise--Mikey.
This was a very fun day of "mixed" ball, which is kinda my favorite, rather than living as a tiny hobbit in a forest of tall trees. Because I'm an awkward ball player, my style is born of water, and nothing else. My form sucks, compared to Marcelo and New York. Their technical skills are far better than mine.
But here's the thing--technical skills require technical precision. And a "mixed" day is gonna be more move and groove. Adaptation--the problem is not your technique:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12u1nA7bXzcBut often good technique relies on technical precision, which wasn't always there today, so our new best hands guys Marcelo and New York struggled today, and this league is pretty unforgiving, leading to a new nickname: "Marsucko!"* and this one added ex post facto: New Yuck.
Sorry guys. It happens. Ask me how I know!
*Marcelo/Marsucko is learning some of our bad habits. He's very soft spoken, but our ref heard him talking smack on more than one occasion today: the trash whisperer?! May he and NY earn as many nicknames as I have over the years, and hopefully more positive ones!
Winning isn't everything. But it is good for the soul every once in a while. Getting f***d every weekend can get to you. This was not that weekend.
Once again, I want to thank my teams for the resurgence. Couldn't have done it without you. I'm not sure I'm ready to take the ride to the glue factory just yet.
Although, after the last game, pretty close. Note to league office--no more games to 31, please.
