The preseason is upon us, faster than expected.
Why oh why were we granted great weather all week, followed by mixed weather this weekend? Ballchair works in mysterious ways.
Saturday. Unprecedented turnout--18-20 players. That's promising.
Notables: hitters--back row middle Taz power introduced early. Wilbur's nuclear option detonated in bounds more than it missed last season. Scott found his slam late in the day.
Newsflash--introducing... Marcelo. A setter. Future point guard (what's the difference? The league will explain, confusingly, and at length). And a resident. In short, just what we've been looking for. Watch for him on the main stage.
Just like last Sunday, dearth of players. So the time honored game of 2s has been revived. You can play it, at Riata, yes you can! One simple rule change--just serve to someone. It makes it all possible.
And fun, if effort intensive. We've done it the last 2 Sundays. Damn fun, if painful. Tbone powered through injury today to continue. So, this in his honor:

And this is true all the moreso when there are 2 of you, not 6:

Message, if any, is that this is a fun league (Tbone--Rule #1, Have Fun), but a serious league. We serve at the pleasure of the residents. To keep a league alive, we need new players, which means we have to be inclusive!
The goal should be that we get 18-24 viable players out there, and that you learn to mix and match with player's you're not familiar with. Goes to playing hard while you're in there, because sitting always sucks.
Of note, Pirates Landing in Houston just went down in flames. Methinks because they thought they owned the place. Seems like something like that has happened to just about all of us in our ball careers. So how about NEVER AGAIN. Because we know better. And this game is what we make of it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R15AS5LIJWIThis looks like the beginning of a great season, people. See you out on the court. Because ball is life!
