What a difference a week makes...

4 days of ball in a row. It's been a while since such a thing was done.

I'm sure my rants and harangues have nothing to do with it, but I was sure pleased that ball looked more like ball again, and less like this:

Soo much easier to play when there's focus not fuckus.

Great turnout, as Pandas realize the regular season comes to an end and the playoffs begin.

Something to note, not all new players are by definition scrubs. You have to let them play, and, dare I say, play with them to find out. There were several times over the 4 days where people came to play who are not us, but didn't suck.

To avoid the shame and delays that happen when there are tons of players waiting, and no one wants to play, I've taken it on myself in recent years to play with these teams, and it doesn't need to suck. In fact, I won with a nerds/birds team, and almost won again. It was one of the more entertaining experiences of the weekend:

Goes to why we play the games. Let em play, I say. Friend Acquisition Program (FAP) pays off with a happy ending (no one is pissed and complains, too much). Funniest play of the 4 day series was when new girl Alison missed the ball in the sun but got it over on a header, because it hit her in the head. We could all wish for that reprieve on the sun side.

Point of order, which has been stressed before: we have 3 competing ways to organize games: drys, shirts, captains. All I can tell you is that managing this (so kind Mr. Neighbor doesn't have to), is an art, not a science.

Forf always votes for extending the tenure of the superteam, by saying playing scrub teams doesn't count against your 3 win Dynasty rule. Well, there are ways to fix that. It is your right as a team to sit for 2 new teams to play, and play winner of that. Otherwise, when it's crowded, it's 3 and out, no matter who you're fighting.

Dynasties were somewhat hard to come by, especially by (supposed) Last Day:

There hasn't been a fight for/to deny Dynasty quite that hard in quite some time:

Kyle's Squad (picked by captains late in the day?), included Mikey, me, Scotty, Dan, Fish took on all comers. Game 2 was interminable--full rote to get a point. Last 3 games took 3 hours!

Notables for this weekend/this season:

Jess and Scott are playing the best ball of their careers. Attorney Kent is born again hard. Good candidate for most improved. Skinny Navy playing cold, but strong and crafty. Will and Forf coming back to the game is a good thing. Sheriff Wescott has returned from his secret journey. Honorable mention for participation and learning by Pirate Grizzle. We look forward to sharing our culture with Houston next year. Alex informs me he's hit the 5 year mark as a player. He's learning. Lastly, the Jesus and Mr. Tasty movie is an old movie, but a damn good movie. You should watch it again:

And our purported sand overlords were nowhere to be found, despite promises of their appearance and displays of their divine power:

And always remember, you can't spell Labor Day without Neighbor, and the other generous residents who host us.

4 days is quite the battle of attrition. Thanks for all who made it made it through it all for good ball.
