What a mixed up whacky weekend.

Saturday was limited turnout, like 10 of us. Experienced players all. But weather definitely rained on the parade. And I was having such a good enjoyable day, too. Then God showed up. Made me angry:

Sunday gave us another chance to become re-acquainted with grace, and Divinity. It started with Karma. I played and lost, but gimpy Forf was too slow to get to the pool. So I subbed out for him. Because dry people play (sometimes, more on that later), and that's what you should do.

Then, what do my wondering eyes do appear, but I fully grown pipe hitting group of Sand People:

That gave us two choices for Salvation today: Water Jesus *:

*Exonerated on 8 year old charges

Or Sand Jesus:

Karma and fate put me on the Dark/Sand Side, with Sand Jesus, Dub, Javi, LJ, and Dieter (from Sprockets??). That team went dynasty, as it should've, but not without some serious bumps in the road.

The weakness I saw is that Sand Force 5 + yours truly would go up big, and then it was playtime. No, it's not. Hear the words of Darth Nowell, the ruthless Administrator of Dallas games: "Play hard. Put the pedal to the metal, because if you do not, you will sit."

Truer words never spoken. My version is this: "The best team on paper still needs to win in the water. That's why we play the games." Case in point. If memory serves, Mikey, Lil TJ, Jarrod, the Steves and Navy took us to the freaking wall. Won 19-17.

That goes down in the books as the Best Loss Ever:

The Dynasty was hours, but the glory is yours. Very nearly made it again to dynasty with Jarrod, Kent, Javi, Sand Jesus, ???. bit came up just a bit short. The other Dynasty team included NY, Dan, Chris Jay, George, Scott, others which I originally remembered in this post, before it went into the ether. They beat what should've been the Dynasty Killer team, which was basically Team Sand without me, and Forf in my place. That's why we play the games!

There were a lotta players today, which makes administration hard:

We have 3 different systems in place, in no particular order: drys, shirts, and captains. They are in conflict. Just got to try to do the best we can with it.

Bring your own bombs is all I can recommend--be ready to fight, fight to the end:

See you next weekends, you magnificent bastards. Sometimes you're on one side of the barricade, sometimes on the other. Be ready to fight on both!

that best loss ever was me, ronin steve, nick, little tj, navy and jarrod. a solid B team and we almost won, twice

don't think i have ever been so satisfied losing all day. i was happy for the challenge of bringing up the underdogs, which we did.

both ronin steve nick played extremely well. ronin steve should get player of the day

Performances like that of the "overmatched" team are awesome. In defeat, there was victory. I believe I congratulated my opponents for a job more well done in losing than my team did in winning. Performances like that lead to "Nerds" and "Birds." Which can happen anywhere, even in Dallas!

In terms of worst losses ever, that turned out to be good for the league, I've been part of one of those: Vets v Grizzlies at Argosy. Still hate it, because we played horribly, and no semblance of that Vets team ever took to the court again, despite my exhortations. The magic invulnerability was broken. It was the End of An Era.

But it gave our new players confidence, and opened the door to more competition with different lineups. I will have to mention that the Grizzlies, the new "Vets," had only a few weeks to bask in the glory of being the top team before they were defeated by the "Young Bloods" which, if memory serves, included all the "new guys" with no team to play on: Ford, Will/Lawnmower, Dub, Wescott/Sheriff. It was 2's, 3's, and 4's, back then, and mighty good games they were...

All glory is fleeting. Especially so when you're recruiting a good talent pool.

And that is something, actually. When a team falls, another team can rise. Such is the way of ball. And it's why we play the games!

This next weekend, and the weekend after that, and the weekend after that, until the ending of the world, teams will form, fight, win, and lose.

There's clearly a place for BBG in this Matrix, but, as I say ad nauseum, that's up to us to make happen:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R15AS5LIJWI

And we CHOOSE not to, except on special occasion.

That means you play the cards you're dealt. And that, until we play at a private venue vs a public all play pool, we remain guerilla fighters. So revel in it, Pandas!
