Let's start with a big word from PhD school:
Simulacrum.
Inspired by a philosophical T2 comment about a Michael Keaton movie that featured clones. Look it up, it will make sense. Nevermind, I'll do it for ya:
http://www.dictionary.com/browse/simulacraToday was a lot like ball, but I'm not sure if it was ball. What was real, and what was a sunstroke/Jello shot mirage? Hard to say, actually.
Here's what I think was real, although it may sound unbelievable:
The Return of Wilbur! I did a personal shout out to him regarding his legendary history. In 2005, at the time of the first Argosy Riata challenge, he was the most dangerous player I'd ever seen on the net. He was blasting shots right around Mikey blocks like he wasn't even there. I swear the ball made a hissing noise when it broke the sound barrier. For the record, Argosy won that very difficult best of 3 challenge.
Here's a team photo:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZzEzDkeHzIToday's honorable mention: From Drunk Steve to Amazing Steve: A Watervolleyball Life. A certain player is gaining sensitivity on how to hit and block. Much improved. Fielding is next.
The birth of a new nickname??? Nick as T3! History abhors a vacuum, and no nickname has been awarded yet this year. Another player of a certain "undersized" height who is learning to play big.
If there were Pirates other than Chief Grizzle, I must have lost them in the mirage. But he has added value(?) in the form of jello shots and definitely in another Riata resident.
The return of Megan. Playing well. Was that real? And Baby Taz is back, after what, like 2 years absence? Now less drunk and less Tazzy?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-mi0r0LpXoI know, I can't believe it either. Good times to be sure. Good ball? Not exactly. More like a good fellowship reunion time. And there's nothing wrong with that.
We are a polymorphous and perverse group of ballers, and I'm proud to know and play with all of you!
