It's on again up at Riata!

After a slow start, had good turnout today. Lost the first game, then won 3 in a row.

At which point a super team showed up--Ford, Jess, Dan, Scott, attorney Kent, and Riata Drew, and in other versions was replaced included Alex(who wants to be known as Aqua Man), and little Dave.

That's a lotta firepower against me, Mikey, Tbone, Ronin Steve, and a couple guys I didn't know, but who adapted quickly to the Chris Paul "Pass the ball" mantra.

Did I mention I got a block on Ford on a crucial point 13? In terms of balance, I think that was the same game where Jess put a wicked moon ball curve right next to me in the back row.

Let's just say it didn't go as expected. Nor did it multiple times for the superteam today. I think they went about .500, and when they should've won big, they mostly won by a little.

Dan had some really, really hard hits, but apparently left consistency in his other water panties. I was told he had some off the field issues:

Also of note--Bunny made a pretty respectable return to the pool today, for the first time in like 3 years. The longest strike since Ford has ended:

Meanwhile, Jim Back is trying to catch Barry Sanders in terms of length of holdout.

Only one scrub challenge today. But outta that game came good things. A dude who figured it out. Played with his friends and got crushed. Wanted more, and decided not to wait to play with them again, but instead got in with the more experienced players: Kirk, Capt. Kirk. Picked up his game pretty fast for a "new" guy, and started to do things at the net.

Note to other new players--this is how you get better. We can bring you in 1-2 at a time, and you might learn a thing or two. If you insist with sticking to your team of inexperience, you will lose quickly and be frustrated. That's not a prediction, it's a proven fact.

I don't think game was quite as clean as it was last week--play was just a bit more awkward. The ball was bouncing funny--floating, hitting tape, bottom of net, etc., which made for some weird, wacky wild stuff out there--sorta my trademark, but my passes could've been a lot cleaner. Mikey's pimp hand got much exercise, but I was driving him into the wall too much and making him reach. Did I also mention in a game I think we finally won, that I missed my first 3 serves?

Other notable play today--Ronin Steve had between six and a dozen monster digs (yes, I notice what people do in the back row), and went through one set of serves where he was firing heat just a hair above the net--hadn't seen that before--hope he keeps it up.

Mikey also went through about a 6 point serving run. When that

Kudos to all today. If we can keep this up, I think we're gonna have a good season. We don't seem to be the "bad guys" anymore. And I'm going to work to get a couple more resident phone #s just in case security notices us again.

But we appear to have a working strategy--show up in force, and you get good games. Show up in 1s and 2s or late, and the scrubs own the pool.

Lets keep doing what we do, AWVP. Do it to them before they do it to us!

In closing, I'm having a blast, and am glad I'm able to still contribute to the game. See you again tomorrow, Spartans!

I did not play that game, and said I would not put it in the AAR. Good that others chronicled it. Maybe it's the non existent global warming, but that sun at Riata is getting worse and worse.
