And a word about etiquette... Granted. Etiquette in ball is a fine line, but I think everyone one this list can say that they know it when they see it. There was a team today, best team in the pool, that crossed the line. A little bit. A little bit... The forgot the Ford rule: kill your opponents as fast and nicely as you can, so we can get to real games. When I lost the pool to them with only 2 other players I could really trust--Jared and Kent, that's when it started... Don't play with your food, people! My team is beat. I'm a professional. I know this. Screwing around to keep the score close is disrespectful. And then, once the pool was theirs, they kept on doin' it. Header shots, played a game to 21 against a team that scored like 4 points, apparently oblivious to the fact that there are certain professionals who are waiting, and getting angry... Sooo, with the best available, which was me, Jared, Tbone, Kent, little TJ, and muscle man Drew (my draft pick, who scored like 7 points on serve), on the side of the blinding sun, we taught them what's what. NO! You're not good enough to be able to turn it on and turn it off. Hell, I've NEVER been good enough to be that kind of player. I work for a living! Proof in pudding, Pandas. They apparently lost again, after I accomplished what I needed to do, and as promised, put drunk Riata Joe in my place for the next game and got the fuck out of crazy land. I knew a couple of those guys. I thought they would've known better. But maybe it's just me. I don't care much for cheap victories. I like combat, vs. a worthy opponent. Best team available. They forgot that simple lesson, and were re-educated. So endeth the lesson for the day! |
