2 days in a row of ball and a nice pre-season start, even if the weather was less than promised on Saturday. For those who want to know but haven't stuck their toes in the water yet, it's still cold.

For Saturday, Jim back dominated all comers, and Jess Back played well as a team. Jess was pounding back row spikes with ferocity, which makes me think we need to get the net as high as it was last year. Does anyone have bungee cords they can contribute? Honorable mention to Wescott's game.

Did I mention it's still cold? Even on Sunday, where weather conditions were much improved, it's still breezy and occasionally cloudy. Main effect on play is that it takes a lot of willpower to stay limber and keep moving. But if Dick is playing, and playing well, how can anyone really complain?

Speaking of Will power, Will has discovered his power animal and his second special purpose besides setting. His hits were wicked awesome on Sunday, especially against girls, which elicited a round of boos. Coming out of the gate strong were Jason and Jared, the first for hitting and the second for shut down blocks and improved serving and spiking abilities on display.

LJ delivered less than promised--I think we had to order a second deck of suck cards because of him. This league has little sympathy for drunken off the field injuries, so his excuses fell largely on deaf ears, but he rallied later in the day--hitting much improved, due primarily to his off season experiences among the heathen sand people.

I managed to arrive with a bit of pep in my step--two blocks on Lloyd (one a game winner), a couple of saves, and a service ace.

In terms of ring generalship, two point guards starting front and back middle should be the standard lineup, and it proved dominant on Sunday.

What was up with the competitiveness of the games this weekend? For whatever reason, we had a lot of one-sided slaughters. And I'm not counting the 3-4 challenge matches we had. These are a good thing, and should be encouraged. As it gets hotter we can play for longer, so we'll have plenty of time to kill each other. And after all, these particular games shouldn't take long...
