So, with Riata drained, Spoons & I chose to voyage out to some of our old haunts, safari style, to see what remained after a year's absence.

MDF has a net which is higher then ours, but if you breathe on it, it would tear to shreds. But it doesn't matter, because the one resident who was hanging around poolside claims that there is "hardly ever" game there anymore. Pool almost totally deserted on hot, summer day = no cover for invasion force and nothing really worth invading.

Next we turned to the battlefield formerly known as Mirage, now the Jefferson, but forget movin' on up to the big time, because these deluxe apartments have remodeled the pool area so there is no more net--probably because of something we did!

Last chance saloon was Lincoln Oaks, which is still called Lincoln Oaks. Apparently things are tough all over, because a couple of the locals saved us from a management swooping down on us a mere minute after we arrived. JB showed up later and interest slowly grew in what we were cookin.' JB and I traded some nice sets for some big hits, and I then turned traitor and blocked Spoons twice at the net. I saw some of the old familiars later in the day, with skill level about where we left it. But there was interest, so we are planning a return trip.

By this time it was high time to return to the one true Obstacle. Note to all Pandas--pre-party consumption of hard booze will not help your game much. I know this because Tyler knows this...

There was an especially bad game involving me, Mikey, Will sans beard (Ford stole it back!), and me--I think things broke down because we were not allowed to have the 2nd T model like we planned.

As most of us know by now, JB was taken out of action by Jessica, there were some good fast rallies, and plenty of chances for showtime all around. OJ's serves were particularly strong this day. Jess & T2 both caught me with a couple of serves (but only a couple), but I got my licks in as well.

Games went into the evening, where Spoons Will won't beat the Wild Boys in 2s, but Juice Will will.

Optimus returned to his rightful habitat

Oddly enough, Sunday had a bigger turnout than Saturday. "Early" games involved a rare double Chief 2s squad vs. Riata newcomers, which ended (predictably), badly for them. The Mikey Bunny Chief show did pretty well early on. There was also a Bunnyblock on Jess.

Best part of the day is mo' residents getting into the action. Maggie and friends played all day. I hope they'll be back, because the late night games were genuinely entertaining, as was Creepy, who was creeptoxicated.

Word is Riata is back on-line by midweek, so hopefully we'll have another shot at ball by Wed or Thurs, and for sure will have someplace to play before 6 on Saturday and Sunday.

Oh yes--a rumor for further safaris--there is supposed to be a place called the Artisan (near Parmer & 620) that has regular game.

I've heard 'regular' game before. It should be defined by the limits of the Argosy, which is lots of game. I sure don't want to roll north only have to have us play us. We can play with ourselves at home god dammit.

:pissleft: Artisan

Well, the person who told me was at Lincoln Oaks, but said he used to live at Artisan, but his own regular game was pretty irregular, so consider the source of the info.

Still, new tales of distant lands brings out the veni vidi vici in me

I am pretty sure we would know by now about any other worthy games in Austin...La Mirage news was slightly disappointing...I built some good games up there when I lived there years ago....I have heard about decent games down at that place in San Marcos, and the next closest games are in Huntsville, TX at The Timbers which were built by same builders as the Obstacle...The others are the 2 complexes in north Dallas off the Tollway between Addison and Plano that were just like our games every Sat and Sun...Thats it fellas unless you count the Arkansas folk...

Yes, but there is also joy in spreading the gospel of the one true court and at least showing the less civilized pools the way of the orb. That's how legends of the Founders are born!

LJ, I've also found two different pools at the Village in downtown Dallas (one enforces no-net rules that Charlie probably told y'all about), a place in Plano (Keith is starting to go there) and two in Lewisville. I'm having another surgery today, so I'm not playing this weekend. If I'm really lucky, I can play next weekend, but I plan to go to Austin the weekend of the 18th if there is game.

Riata drained? What happened?

How are the games at the new Dallas area venues???Ball on our level I have only ever found at Amli on the Tollway and the Timbers in Huntsville I mentioned earlier...

Some late night idiots that cant buy cans instead of bottles for the same price broke glass at the Riata...Pool is back to normal and refilled, but I have a fear that the draining of a pool because of dumbasses is going to result in increased security that we have not had to endure at all this year out there for the 1st time...

Glass was also found in Argosy pool. I did not report this because it would no doubt have been blamed on us, and, in the event of pool draining, they might not get around to filling it up again until October.
