I was not allowed much sleep or notice before Sunday/funday(?) arrived at my doorstep. Big turnout, including Wild Boys, OJ, Travis, Jacob, Ford, MVP, Bunny (dnp), Jim Back, Rhino, Spoons, and yours truly.

But with all these players, there wasn't that much interest in playing--Ford had breaky elbow, and the cold and SXSW got to people quickly--there were very few 3s and 4s games, as pandas chose to soak up the ample sun rather than face the less ample temperatures in the Obstacle. But I think I only sat out one game.

My injury, which I don't think is as bad as I thought it was going to be, occurred in the third half(!) of game 3, a battle royale between Jess Spoons and Chief Back. It looked bad for the good side, as we started out 0-9, but we rallied by 12 to bring the game within 1. Somewhere about this point I must've indeed become inspired by Wild Boy play, specifically T-2 antics, because I somehow managed to hit the outside of my left foot really hard on the coping while diving for a shot. It hurt, but I finished the game--you can barely feel your feet in cold water, anyway. Spoons said he was impressed that the old man could still move this day, but this time I zigged when I should've zagged.

I really thought everything would be fine, until the pain train arrived around 3am and I couldn't sleep or put weight on it for a full day. Kept the foot on ice in the mini-cooler and took the day off from work. Now much better.

There was going to be a far less chief-centric AAR yesterday, but my own struggles have kind of obliterated other relevant facts. I can remember Jess having some good serves, me blocking Jess once, Ford having a couple of good spikes, but also getting roofed by OJ, Mikey spikes it for the best hit of the day in one of the few games he did play, and honorable mentions for Travis who is learning to use his height, and Jacob for getting an early start, and Spoons for perseverance in his quest to spike.

So, as I looked at my foot and the HQ, it appears that me and HQ need some time in dry dock for repairs...
