Look around, look around. I see a lot of new faces. Which means people have been talking about the AWVP. GOOD. Also a lot of new technologies. Riata has a new net. Looks a lot like the kind of net we favor at the Argosy. They even raised it an inch or so--another couple inches and you're at a height were hitting is for hitters, not everyone. And TJ gets thinking Panda of the day--where does he get those wonderful toys? Freakin' portable halogens. Stadium lighting, at last! Makes me think we should get a couple of portable lights to clip on to the new railing at the Obstacle, whenever we can play there again. Sigh.. Riata may soon be able to field its own squad again: Crawfish, Edub, Get Some, What about Bob, and Super Dave made appearances and played well. Newsflash--Bob can spike. Who knew? Add in TJ and Lloyd, and there was a lotta height out there. For a point guard, this equals a target rich environment. But I really only need one. I spent most of the day on the wrong side of the height equation with the Wild Juice Chief Sheriff Scott show, but I went about 6-2 on the day. Argosy training, sir--be first, be fast, be accurate. I even got my blocking shoes on a couple of times, and even twice in a row on TJ, who was none too pleased. Third time's the charm, though. It was fun to jump ship for the last game and play on TJ and Lloyd's team. They have one of the best big man give and go plays out there. We also had the first "off the pole" play ever witnessed at Riata. The locals were confused. I think our pirate crew is warming up to the Riata, and they seem to be taking to the concept of watervolleyball. Let's just remember on both sides of the fence not to abuse the privilege. Let the Mirage experience be a lesson to you. I'd stick to one weekday and Sundays, closing up shop by 10:30. That leaves a big question--where are we playing on Saturday? |
