Bravo to all those who braved the inclement weather and came to play on Big Thursday, commonly known as BT, for those new to the site.
It's been a long time since I was sanctioned to play at Riata, so it was fun to return. I wanted to be a naughty watervolleyball god. And I was!
People showed up on time for a change (me included), and we had some fun 4 on 4 games early. At Riata 4's is the new 2's. As chief of the Wescott Phelps foundation, powered by Ford, I'm proud to say we defeated LJ and his sand ball squad. E-dub and Corey are for real, especially the former's serve, which had a pretty experienced backfield soiling their water panties. Welcome to the NFL, rookies! Here's a couple of lessons for ya--LJ will never quite learn that Argosy training is superior, although he has figured out, as he has told the Tin Man on numerous occasions, speed beats power, and height ain't all that if you wait rather than anticipate. Lesson #3, according to Terrible Chatty Chief, is that "it's a mind game"--million dollar moves and a 10 cent head won't buy you a gumball, let alone a watervolleyball trophy.
We added JB and Navy for 5's. Familiar shouts of, "What are you doing, Back," and "Out on Navy" echoed across the court. but JB's contribution at the net prevailed.
Next to join in were the Wild Boys and What About Bob. T1 and T2 got a rare chance to work together, and the winning continued. LJ made Jessica sad by repeatedly not setting him.
To make a long story short, I went 9-1 on the day! Since I was on their team the whole evening, I think Ford and Crawfish had the same record.
So who gets player of the day? Ford was a really solid hitter, but the big pool threw off his fielding skills a little bit. Crawfish had some solid sets and good all around play, but I think I might have edged him in scoring runs off serves and "keep the drive alive" saves.
