I was just about to introduce the new/unfamiliar faces in the winners circle.

Alphonso. Yes, we had an Alphonso dynasty (following shortly on the heels of. Ram dynasty a week or so back). Had to get the 3rd game 6 on 5.

Michael Snyder—guy in the T shirt. That’s and OG baller who played with me in the Argosy in the 90s. Still has some of the bad tendencies from that era too : )—good serve though. lives right across the street if we need a player

Reno—glad to see him back in the game. Not sure if he’s been in a photo before.

Last but definitely not least, Matias. Thanks for helping with the spelling on whether there was an “h” in there. Because we don’t need math to know Matias is good. Exceptional first day.

Winning wasn’t particularly easy today (ask Dan). Especially early, where we had a 16-14 game and another one where team I was on was down 1-7.

An additional challenge involves playing as a team with new players and various skill sets. It’s called mixed ball, something we’ve done for years, and it can work. Look at all the smiling faces today as an example.

New guy Kyle played a couple. There’s potential there. Braylon remembered to take his ring off, thank goodness. Good court awareness on offense and he can bang.

Joe, Kenny, Regan, Chris Jay, Ethan, nice serving today in addition to your other contributions.

Jarrod has some tough assignments covering a lot of ground in the back row on the early games. Good job there, and some nice cross sets.

We had an LJ sighting. Questionable team selection but good job coaching his team up and working hard to their benefit.

Let’s talk about 5s. There are gonna be holes in the formation people can exploit. So you have to think about that when you do your spacing for serve/receive.

But there’s something else—mobility. You’ve got to be ready to move around. “Go get it” as LJ might say.

I believe I had a few examples of that today. I’m really old, so if I can do it, so can you : ).

In fact, there’s a career changing example of this realization from a Dallas game involving Dan that is now known simply as “the move”. Dan did not have a good day today in terms of the W-L, so I figured I’d give him some props with this old highlight reel. Cue The Move, Dan, so people will know what I’m talking about.

Tomorrow prediction is there will probably be more people. Which means there will be sitting. There was no sitting today, just playing.

Those who couldn’t make it missed out. To those who could’ve showed up but didn’t, also missed out. I will direct the latter category to Kenny’s earlier comments: do not take days like this for granted.

Kenny’s admonition translated into classic rock:
