Our first rodeo this is not. Ass whoopin this shall be.
Having missed ball for the rest of the week (except for some very forgettable games at the Obstacle with the upstairs neighbors' friends), I very much enjoyed going up to Riata for some overdue trigger time.
I showed up with Jess and we were soon joined by Mikey & Bunny. I think I won one then lost one (the correct number of games to sit out to end up on a good squad seems to be 2), and then came back with a vengeance.
Team members kept dropping off, but, with the nucleus of me & Jessica (go Argosy!), our team kept on winning. Eventual additions included DWayne, the Neighbor (a new nickname has been born), Marquis Jeffrey. There were holes in the squad, but team play was pretty darn good. At one point, it looked like the scrubrun was over--some serious competition, in the form of Fish, LJ, TJ, Lloyd, and the other usual suspects had us down 10-5. Then Neighbor turned in a serious serving performance, and I dominated center net (shocking, I know), for the tune of about 5 points on my own. So the winning continued. The reputation of those who trained on the southern Obstacle preceded us, but is now well entrenched amongst the Riata players and would be players.
Now I hear we're going to try Riata Wednesday. If we can pledge to show up and then, like I didn't last time, actually show up, there should be enough good players to keep things rolling.
On a side note, I'd try to recruit a couple of the better new guys when it's time to fill a hole in a team so they can get better.
