Walleyball is Wrong A treatise, by Chief Sharing of cultures is generally good. We have learned many things from Dallas--no more jungle, playing with multiple volleyballs. Still working on no lifting. The concept of Ballchair was inspired by Dallas, but it is our own. Walleyball, as I understand it, now means walls are in, unless the ball hits the wall and goes out, or hits net after hitting wall. And all balls that hit wall are dead balls. Can't be played anymore. Not everything coming out of Dallas is Gospel. Walleyball is an exemplar of which I speak. In fact, it's a bad idea. Here's why: Dallas claims that they play Walleyball so that there's no arguing. That may be true. But walleyball rule has other aspects to it that Dallas likes, but doesn't mention. Walleyball is a pretty good advantage for servers and hitters. You can now be a little more aggressive--hit harder and less accurately, and ball will be called in. Dallas plays on a lower net, with a smaller harder ball with less grip and play to it, so harder to field and keep alive. And they like it at that way--they don't want their hits getting dug/coming back. Hitter's paradise. Walleyball is just another piece in that puzzle. Tricksy Dallases making a reasonable pitch for yet another power advantage. I very much dislike the Walleyball rule as a defender. Because now you have to defend wall. Lines in sand are not sharp or made out of limestone. Walls in a pool are. On behalf of those who have had ribs, hands, elbows, other body parts make contact with wall, I say NO! Is no arguing more important than no injuries? Our tongues may be sharp, but Wall is sharper. Also, Riata court is pretty long, and Walleyball just makes it that much longer. Back row now has to worry about a little bit more ground, since serves that hit wall are in under those conditions. And what's up with a ball that bounces off the wall and back into the court not being playable? Another advantage to the offense. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nevux3SEz_Y Lastly, although wall is in unless it bounces out sounds simple, what part of WALL are we talking about? Are we just talking about the vertical edge surrounding the pool? What about the top of the wall if it's close to the court? Wall edges are pretty small things, so does it have to catch part of the edge of Wall to be walleyball, whereas "top" of wall (ie surface outside the court) is out rather than in? See? Not as easy as it sounds. Majority of players polled today were against Walleyball. This is Austin. This is Riata! Not Dallas! So No to Walleyball.
