Post subject:  Need pool/system recommnedations

I'm hoping you experts can help a newbie out. We are about to build a swimming pool that I want to be volleyball friendly. I've briefed searched the internet for advice and found nothing of substance yet. Could you pros please give me your opinion:

a) What would be the perfect dimensions for a backyard water volleyball pool? Length? Width? Depth near the net? Depth on the back row? Anything to particularly avoid?

b) What are some quality volleyball systems available? I'm leaning toward an in-deck version. Also, any systems that have a basketball goal(s) with it?

c) Any websites/vendors to recommend?

Thanks in Advance,
Pat

Not sure about the pool dimensions. I've been meaning to measure the pool we play at.

As you can see in the below photo, the pool we like to play at is 4 feet deep throughout. This photo was taken when the net and poles were taken down.

This pool has ladders. Ladders are no good. They get in the way.

A word of advice is to get a safe flat drain that doesn't hurt when you land on it. The drain is usually in the middle of the pool under the net and the one at this pool is very painful.

Or you could just not jump on the drain.

I wouldn't use plastic poles, they'll break. Ronin Steve destroyed the whole setup at Preserve about 5 min after we got there. Unless you're talking heavy duty PBC pipe.

I wouldn't buy anything "designed" for watervolleyball, for it will be flimsy.

Academy sells separate volleyball nets for about $13 that hold up pretty well.

In terms of dimensions, Argosy pool (pic) is the best. You can play 2 on 2, which means that, if for some reason not so many people show up, you still got game. And it will also fit 4 on each side. We used to play 5s but that got pretty crowded.

If you have to have ladders, make sure they are removable, so you can take them out when it's time for game.

Thanks for the great tips thus far! I would have never thought of the ladder or drain cover issues.

Best Regards,
Pat
